our first Old Girls play too® event

4 teams and 14 beginners ensured that the FUN Festival was a great success!
4 teams and 14 beginners ensured that the FUN Festival was a great success!

On Sunday 10th May, Old Girls Play Too teamed up with Lewes Women Vets to bring a FUN (Friendly – Uplifting – Non-judgemental) Football Festival for women 40+.

The idea was that 2 pitches would host friendly 7v7 games with no refs, no scores kept and just fun football to be played, which it was.

The third pitch hosted women 40+ who had not played running football before.

We had 4 teams enter the Festival and 14 women signed up to the beginners’ pitch.  We were delighted that 14 women beginners had signed up!

The fun, recreational games were played in a great spirit and the beginners’ pitch led with a warm up and 3 different coached practices.  Once the laughter and fun had finished, there were 2 games for the beginners.  Three female coaches, Jo, Tracey & Carol delivered some basic, fun practices.

It was fantastic to see women in their 40s/50s/60s and 70s join in the Festival and the feedback was fab.  Thank you to everyone who made it a really special evening and we hope to be doing more events like this in the future.

Thank you, also to Lewes Women Vets for asking us to collaborate and being great hosts.  We even got to join in a special song that had been written about being able to play football at a later age.  Fantastic!

The feedback we received included some of the following quotes:

Not to worry about what to wear, what shape you are or how old you are as there’s a real mix of very friendly people who just want to enjoy themselves”

“It gave me a chance to realise you can go at your own pace”

“Take the plunge! The fitness and social aspects are wonderful”

“I enjoyed everything about the session – the training, the game, the laughter”

The event was a great success and really proved that you don’t have to have any experience or fitness to come and play for the first time.  The Festival was all about FUN – Friendly, Uplifting, Non-Judgemental football and that’s just what it was.

We were delighted to be joined by Simon from Simon Roe Photography who always produces top images!
